Responsibilities
New Mexico Surgery Center - Orthopaedics, located at: 8300 Constitution Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110:
No Weekends! No Call! Paid Holidays!
Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.
Plans, implements and evaluates care for all age patients in operating room.
Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center.
Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnel in other departments as well as team members.
May have additional responsibilities as designated by the manager, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits and projects.
Required Skills:
a) Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process
b) Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
c) Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room
d) Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively
e) Delegates activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members
f) Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time
g) Assists with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability
h) Addresses patient needs during admission to the operating room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting
i) Transports patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs
j) Identifies the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicates such information to all members of the surgical team
k) Reviews patients’ medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members
l) Provides comfort and reassurance to patient
m) Maintains patients’ privacy and dignity
n) Explains intraoperative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient
o) Performs the circulating nurse’s role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures
p) Prepares operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed
q) Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure
r) Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia
s) Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures
t) Monitors compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards
u) Assists with identification and confirmation of operative site
v) Provides for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters
w) Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly
x) Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
y) Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders/directions
z) Documents patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures
aa) Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about patient’s status
Required Experience:
Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
Currently licensed in the state.
BLS and ACLS Required.
One year experience required intra-operative setting.
Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
