Responsibilities

Interprets physician prescriptions and medication orders. Acts as a drug information resource to patients, medical staff, nursing staff and ancillary department personnel. Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patient care by performing the related duties.

Salary Range: $62 -$93 (Depending on Experience)


Required Skills:

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.
  • Graduated from an accredited School of Pharmacy. 
  • One year of hospital/retail pharmacy practice preferred.

Required License & Certification

  • Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the State of California.

Essential Functions

  • Pharmacist Communication and Education
    • Answers questions and provides information to physicians, nurses, patients and other healthcare professionals on the appropriate use of medications, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, etc.
    • Reviews communications and completes department education.
    • Maintains established policy & procedures, and SOPs concerning medication quality control, security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Compounding and USP797 Compliance
    • Compounds or verifies medications using master formulas, SOPs, protocols, and processes, in conjunction with USP 797 guidelines.
    • Ensures that CSPs are properly packaged, labeled, stored, and with proper documented BUD.
  • Pharmacist Function
    • Reviews and documents tech pulled meds prior to delivery to patient care areas to ascertain that the correct drug, dating, dosage form, and strength is properly dispensed.
    • Ensures the maintenance and proper operation of equipment and supplies in the work areas.
    • Enters and/or verifies data entry into the computer system (Pharmacy program) for prescribed medications and maintains patient profiles.
    • Monitors all posting onto the patient profiles in order that accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy may be realized to provide medications safely to our patients.
    • Assures work environment that optimizes patient safety.
    • Supervises and directs pharmacy technicians as needed as required
    • Other duties as assigned.
