Job Summary: Responsible for preparation of daily staffing schedule for the Preop/PACU areas based on the needs of the day.  Collaborates with Clinical Manager to facilitate daily operational flow.  Provides input and feedback to Clinical Manager for staff performance evaluations and competencies.   Plans, coordinates, and oversees care for patients of any age in Preop/PACU department.  Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center.  Position requires 5 day work week to include manager on duty, at a minimum, on a weekly basis.  Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members.  May have additional responsibilities as designated by the clinical manager, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Knows and adheres to policies and procedures of the Center.

  1. Follows policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for perioperative nursing care according to accepted standards.

  1. Participates in daily staffing schedule for Preop/PACU in accordance with the clinical needs of the day, with clinical manager oversight.

  1. Collaborates with the Clinical Manager to facilitate daily operational flow in accordance with safe patient care standards.

  1. Provides input and feedback to Clinical Manager for staff performance evaluations and competencies.

  1. Provides leadership and support in developing and maintaining effective relationships with the center staff and the medical staff.

  1. Provides input into selection of new Preop/PACU employees.

  1. Assists QI/Risk Management/Infection Control/Safety Coordinator as relates to Preop/PACU areas.

  1. Plans, implements, and evaluates pre and post operative nursing care for patients based on individual, specific patient needs, and according to physician’s orders.

    10. Organizes and prepares medical records of patients. Documents care appropriately and fully. Follows up on missing data and other patient care needs.  Covid calls as necessary

    11. Check medications, supplies and orders or directs ordering of supplies including drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics.

    12. Assign staff to restock supplies

    13. Ensure AM checks completed

   14. Responsible for monthly code cart checks; have items ordered as needed

   15. Collaborate with clinic to obtain paperwork (use of Athena and/or contact clinic for required paperwork); ensure charts completed for the next day.

   16. Backfill staffing as needed

 17. Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration and effects, patient assessment, airway maintenance, patient teaching, emotional/social support of         patients and families, and other needed clinical competencies.

 18. Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.

 19. Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth, team environment and collaboration with all departments in the facility.

 20. Actively participates in appropriate committee and QI activities.

 21. Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.

 22. Uses good body mechanics.

 23. Follows employee health and other personnel and staffing policy guidelines.

 24. Initiates, participates and attends all mandatory in-services and meetings.

 25. Facilitates and documents pre-op/pacu huddles, at a minimum 3 days/week and as needed

 26. Any additional responsibilities as designated by the clinical manager,


Required Skills:

Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

Currently licensed in the state of Georgia. 

CPR required, advanced life support certification required. 

One year experience required intra-operative setting. 

Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.

Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
