Arizona Spine and Joint Hospital is looking for an experienced Insurance Verification and Collections Specialist. Arizona Spine and Joint Hospital is a physician owned surgical hospital specializing in Orthopedic surgeries.

Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, the Insurance Verification and Collections Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Verifies patient hospital benefits and eligibility, authorization requirements, notification of admission requirements, Blue Distinction Center requirements, and coordination of benefits, for scheduled procedures, add-on procedures, and direct admit procedures.
  • Enters and maintains detailed electronic data per the established department criteria.
  • Coordinates with Case Management and Coders to review upcoming procedures for correct admitting status and procedure codes.
  • Confirms scheduled procedure/CPT codes appropriate for admit status and per payer requirements.
  • Monitors and follows up on pending authorizations of upcoming surgical cases.
  • Prepares patient estimates, and ensures they are ready in a timely manner for Admitting.
  • Monitors the daily operation of the revenue cycle and all billing and collections function. 
  • Resolves error reports associated with the billing process

Collections: Ensures collection duties are accurately performed in completion of, but not limited to, the following areas:

    • use of Meditech system; posting of payments from EOBs
    • posting of adjustments and write-offs on accounts
    • account follow-up on all types of payers
    • receiving and working with patient calls
    • resolving problem accounts
    • managing correspondence and verification of payments as it relates to managed care contracts. 

Required Skills:
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills for contacting payers, patients and coworkers.
  • Willingness to accept other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in utilizing word processing, integrated database and other functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize and understand mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to use office machines and telephone systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Prior experience in collection of accounts preferred.
