No weekends, No holidays and No call!

Saint Thomas Surgicare is a multi-specialty practice that focuses on providing the best and safety patient experience in the outpatient setting. We are currently seeking a dynamic Insurance Certifier to join our staff.

Job Summary:

Interface with visitors, patients, family, and physicians on phone and in person. Will also be responsible for working the facilities A/R report and collecting money due from the Insurance Company. Fighting for reimbursement of claims processing.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Operates telephone system including receiving incoming calls, taking messages, identify nature of business and call.
  • Performs clerical duties including distribution of mail and messages, monitoring office supplies, and maintaining postage meter.
  • Assist with chart preparation.
  • Assist with Admissions.Check in pre-op patients. Copy identification and insurance.Communication with Pre-Op nursing staff.
  • Collect patient responsibility as determined by the Insurance Verifier.
  • Provide relief to Admitting, Office Assistant, and Scheduling as required.
  • Verifies insurance coverage based on information provided by physician offices at the time of scheduling.
  • Contacts patient to gather additional information, if needed, as well as to notify them of their financial responsibility prior to the scheduled date of service.
  • Reviews financial obligation with patient and authorized party following USPI’s Surgicares program or any other program established by the company.
  • Pre-qualifies third party coverage of scheduled procedure(s).
  • Actively coordinates with materials management regarding required implants, equipment and/or supplies needed for scheduled cases in order to calculate allowable and patient responsibility accurately.
  • Follows all policies and procedures.

THESE DUTIES ARE IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER DUTIES ASSIGNED TO THE INDIVIDUAL BY MANAGEMENT.

Required Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training. 
  • Or Equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Communication skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills ability to effectively present information to patients, physicians, and other employees of surgery center. 
  • Basic math skills.
  • Excellent office etiquette.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the payment processing of a claim under a managed care contract.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to foresee problems and be proactive in problem solving.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Prefer previous experience working with AdvantX. (Patient Accounting System)
  • Ability to enter data into computer, file large amounts of paper and use office equipment
  • Knowledge of how to access benefits from various sources such as phone, person, websites
  • Ability to interpret benefits in order to convey to patient and to calculate allowable
  • Ability to use discretion in dealing with the public 
  • Ability to communicate patient benefits and payment options effectively and professionally
  • Ability to calculate allowable and patient responsibility accurately
