Position Summary

Billing Specialists are responsible for the proper documentation of claim forms and the billing of surgical procedures.  Perform complete chart reviews, verifying patient demographics, assigning codes and modifiers in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines for appropriate reimbursement.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Pull and prep operative notes from our designated transcription company
  • Extract information from medical records, operative notes, invoices, progress notes and discharges to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Capture implants, high cost supplies, high cost drugs, post op pain blocks and observations times prior to charge submission
  • Review accuracy of invoice details, including customer billing instructions, pricing, discounts, state sales tax, etc.
  • Run recurring billing workflow and issue claims
  • Ensure timely follow-up and resolution of internal and external inquiries of billing issues (i.e., operative notes, POPM form, invoices or implant pricing etc)
  • Reconcile revenue and billing during period-end close process
  • Complete cases and upload to designated electronic claims clearinghouse
  • Maintain current knowledge of health care billing laws, rules and regulations and developments
  • Generate professional written and verbal communication with clients and co-workers

Required Experience:

Requirements (Skills and qualifications)

  • Education: there are no specific educational requirements for this position.
  • Experience: At least 2-5 years of medical facility billing experience, out of network helpful. Orthopedic/Pain management/ Ambulatory Surgery Center is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of computerized billing systems. Experience with Vision, AdvantX and/ or Zirmed/Waystar is helpful.
  • Basic level mathematical proficiency, with a strong ability to understand, interpret and develop spreadsheet data.
  • Critical thinking to identify and resolve complex problems in a remote work environment.
  • Technical expertise in prioritizing tasks while meeting or exceeding deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills to enhance a cooperative virtual team and energetic work environment.
