Physicians' Surgery Center of Tidewater is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Insurance Verifier to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for verifying insurance coverage, obtaining pre-authorizations, and ensuring accurate billing for a variety of surgical procedures in our multispecialty surgery center. We are looking for someone with demonstrated longevity in past roles who values long-term career growth and stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately verify patient insurance coverage for all scheduled surgeries and procedures.
- Obtain required authorizations and pre-certifications from insurance companies before scheduled surgeries.
- Review and document detailed insurance benefits, including co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums.
- Work closely with patients and physicians to resolve any coverage or authorization issues before surgery dates.
- Update patient records with verified insurance information and maintain a high level of accuracy in documentation.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies to clarify coverage, resolve discrepancies, and escalate complex issues as needed.
- Collaborate with the billing team to ensure clean claims submission and prompt reimbursement.
- Provide patients with an understanding of their financial responsibility before surgery.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with multi-specialty surgical procedures and related insurance coding.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 codes, and authorization procedures.

Required Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in insurance verification, preferably in a healthcare or surgical setting.
- Demonstrated longevity in previous roles; candidates with a stable work history will be prioritized.
- Strong knowledge of health insurance plans, including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and insurance portals.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
