Responsibilities
New Mexico Surgery Center - Orthopaedics, located at: 8300 Constitution Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
No Weekends! No Call! Paid Holidays!
Plans, coordinates, and oversees care for patients of any age in Pre Anesthesia Testing department.
Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center.
Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members.
May have additional responsibilities as designated by the manager, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects.
Required Skills:
a) Opens the Preadmission office, signs on to the computer and prints out next two days’ worth of surgery schedules.
b) Verify patient charts are complete. Looks for missing charts and obtains necessary labs, EKG, chest x-ray, doctor office notes, or cardiac clearance.
c) Interview patients as they arrive at the surgery center. Provides emotional support and explains all procedures.
d) Obtain complete medical history using preadmission questionnaire. Obtain necessary releases for needed records and HIPPA regulations.
e) Review and give patient pre-op instructions placing initialed copy in patient’s chart.
f) Consult with anesthesiologist in charge regarding abnormal labs, EKG, or any questionable patient condition affecting clearance for surgery.
g) Telephone and interview patients not seen in person.
h) Maintain patient logs.
i) Ensure completed patient charts for next day are in locked cabinet in pre-op.
j) Leave memos communicating necessary information to pre-op staff and next day’s pre-admit staff.
k) Cross trains in related areas.
Required Experience:
Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
Currently licensed in the state. BLS and ACLS required.
One year experience required intra-operative setting.
Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
