Meets all responsibility requirements established by the Supervisor, 
Laboratory Services and Assistant Manager, Laboratory Services. 
 Responsible for the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic 
evaluations by the pathologist, including surgical, research and outside cases. 

Assumes responsibility for quality of tissue slides, following technical and 
quality control procedures. 
 Maintains work area equipment supplies. 
 Performs special techniques including special stains. 
 Monitors compliance with safety regulations. 
 Performs other related duties as needed. 

Indirectly oversee the work of laboratory assistants. 
 May participate in training of other lab personnel. 

High school diploma, associate degree, or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit 
from a regionally accredited college or university, equivalent in laboratory experience, or 
registered as Histology Technician HT (ASCP) preferred.
 Must be HT or HTL certified or meet the requirements and be eligible for certification.
 State license if required by state in which the lab is located.
 Preferred for California:
 - Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory 
 science or medical technology from an accredited institution OR
 - An associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR
 - Education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in science with 
 at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution OR
 - Meet other provisions defined in 42CFR493.1489(b)(2)(B)(4) or 42CFR493.1489(b)(2)(B)(5)(i)
 for personnel performing high complexity testing on or before April 24, 1995
