Annapolis, Maryland•Organizeandassigndailyworkflowwithintheteam.
•Operatescomputerizedlaboratoryequipmenttofix,dehydrate,andinfiltratewithwax,tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the Pathologist.
•Appropriatelystainsandlabelsspecimens.
•Accessioningandgrossingofsamples.
•Performsspecialstainsandimmunohistochemistryprocedures.
•Responsibleforpreventativemaintenanceandtroubleshootingofequipmentandlaboratory computers.
•Keepsaccuraterecordsincludingequipmentpreventativemaintenance andrepair,QAandQC records, temperature and equipment charts, safety procedures, training exposure, and waste management.
•Preparesslidesofspecimenstoenhancevisibilityundermicroscope.
•Examinesslidesundermicroscopetoensuretissuepreparation meetslaboratoryrequirements.Studies slides under microscope to detect deviations from expected results andreports abnormalities for further study.
•Assumesresponsibilityforkeepingworkareaclean.
•Completesthoroughcl,eaningattheendofworkperiod.
•Prepareschemicalsandstainsforperformingtests.Usesallchemicalsfollowingsafetyprocedures. Maintains accurate andadequate inventory ofreagents and tracks utilization and expiration dates.
•Understandsandfollowsalllaboratoryaccreditationstandards,OSHA,EPA,andCLIAstandards. Maintains educational credits and other requirements for licensure.
•Trainnewstaffandcoachcurrentstaffforoptimal performance andefficiency.Plan,assign,and direct work.
•Addresscomplaintsandsolveproblems.
Required Skills:
•Superiorcommunicationskillsbothverbalandwritten.
•Abilitytoreadandinterpretdocumentssuchassafetyrules,operatingandmaintenance instructions, and procedures.
•Abilitytowritetechnicalprocedures.Abilitytospeakeffectivelytopathologists, customers, and employees of the organization.
•Demonstratedabilitytothriveinafastpacesettingwhilemanagingcompetingdemands.
Abilitytoadd,subtract,multiply, anddivideinallunitsofmeasure,usingwholenumbers,common fractions,anddecimals,Abilitytocomputerate,ratio,andpercent.Abilitytouseweightscales and metric measurements
Required Experience:
•Associate's degree (A.A.) orequivalent from two-year college ortechnical school; orsixmonthsto one-yearrelatedexperience and/ortraining;orequivalent combination ofeducation andexperience.
•PriorknowledgeofMicrosoft Office,primarilyWordandExcel.
•HTorHTL(ASCP)Certificate/Licensepreferred.
