Northwest Surgery Center is hiring a PreOp/PACU Manager

Welcome to Northwest Surgery Center

Conveniently located on the Ascension Seton Northwest Hospital campus. We have 7 OR rooms and 1 Procedure room. We perform outpatient surgical procedures in ENT, General, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, Pain Management, Podiatry, Urology. Position requires weekdays only -- no holidays, weekends, or call. Some early mornings and later evenings may be required; schedule subject to change based on surgical schedule and flow of the day.

PreOp/PACU Manager at Northwest Surgery Center

Directs, coordinates and controls the multi-disciplinary activities for patients undergoing surgical intervention and recovery in a safe environment. Responsible for the interpretation, direction, and evaluation of nursing practice to promote safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care throughout the Pre-op and PACU. Demonstrates the primary goal of providing surgical and recovery care services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Formulates and implements nursing philosophy and objectives consistent with the stated goals of the Center.
• Assists in developing policies, procedures, and staffing essential to the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of the Center. Reviews and revises these in collaboration with the Administrator, the nursing staff and the professional staff, keeping up-to-date on current trends in nursing practice and patient care.
• Evaluates programs and patient care activities.
• Responsible for continued compliance with government regulatory agencies, i.e. HIPAA and the facilities accrediting organizational standards.
• Assures documentation of patient care meets criteria dictated by legal practice, state, and federal health standards.
• Develops an organizational structure, assigning responsibilities, and delegating authority that shall facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care for the patient.
• Provides leadership and support in developing and maintaining effective relationships with the center staff and the medical staff.
• Establishes, maintains, analyzes, and evaluates standards of nursing care within the Pre-op/P.A.T. area, and PACU in compliance with professional nursing.
• Prepares weekly and monthly nursing schedules.
• Responsible for collaborating on standards of performance with the ancillary support services.
• Responsible for recruitment, retention, evaluation, and supervision of PACU & Pre-Op nursing personnel.
• Maintains awareness of professional issues at the local, state, and national levels that impact the delivery of nursing services and health care management.
• Initiates and / or supports activities to control costs.
• Makes recommendations for medical supplies and equipment purchases to the Administrator based on the evaluation of new or improved products.
• Assists with quarterly inventory, including counting.
• Delegates administrative responsibilities to another staff R.N. in his / her absence with notification to the Director.
• Provides guidance, counseling, and support as needed to the PACU and Pre-Op nursing staff.
• Provides and supervises nursing orientation programs and staff development as needed.
• Reduces chance of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices.
• Supervises collection of all required records and reports.
• Holds individual employees accountable for assigned responsibilities, individual goals, and performance expectations through annual performance evaluations and conferences.
• Establishes, maintains, and evaluates quality control studies within the pre-operative and PACU areas in collaboration with the Clinical Manager and the Administrator to improve the services these departments provide to others.
• Oversees the EDGETM responsibilities of direct reports and maintains own EDGETM requirements.
• Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
• Implements safe practices and provides knowledgeable guidance and evaluation of the environment of care management, including life safety (fire prevention), security, hazardous materials and waste management, emergency preparedness, infection control, the safe use of medical equipment, and utilities.
• Identifies areas that require additional reinforcement through education, consultation, or practicum.
• Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy and HIPAA regulations.
• Follows the Center's professional code of conduct and dress code policy.
• Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians and their office staffs, patients, and employees.
• Attends all mandatory in-services and meetings.
• Assists with review and revision of the policies and procedures at the Center.
• Serves as member of committee that oversees preparations for inspections for compliance and accreditation.
• Assists in the development, monitoring and control of the staff, operations, and capital budgets.
• Works closely with the Leadership Team to monitor and control the purchasing plan to stay within the proposed budget.
• Responsible for PACU, and Pre-Op staff including; orientation, training, evaluation and annual competencies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a professional school of Nursing.
• Current license as a TX Registered Nurse. 
• Must maintain BCLS and ACLS certification, PALS certification preferred. If not current in certification, must obtain within 90 days of hire.
• At least two years’ supervisory experience.
• Three years of experience in peri-operative setting, ICU, or PACU. Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred.
• Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
• Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
