This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and monitoring of Florida’s Risk Management program. The Regional Risk Manager (FL) ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, accrediting agency standards, and organizational policies to promote a culture of safety, quality, and compliance. The Regional Risk Manager is responsible for providing clinical education and quality support to assigned facilities including but not limited to required risk management reporting, regulatory changes, assistance with survey preparation and follow-up, policy and procedure updates and other clinical operations initiatives. The Risk Manager will act as a resource for state required reporting, development of action plans, process changes, clinical integration initiatives, and engagement opportunities.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain the risk management program and supporting policies, ensuring alignment with Tenet/USPI risk program and the Florida state regulations, including Chapter 59A-5 of the Florida Administrative Code.
  • Works with the facility leaders to ensure the Governing Body at each ASC, reviews and approves the Risk Management Program annually.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to patients, staff, and the organization.
  • Manage incidents and adverse events, including investigation, documentation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.These activities are coordinated with the facilities Quality Coordinators, Infection Preventionists and home office resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain risk management files and ensure timely reporting of required incidents and reports to the appropriate regulatory bodies, such as the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).Ensure all events are entered into the Tenet/USPI Safety Event Reporting System.
  • Participate as a member on the quarterly Continuous Quality Improvement Committee and the Patient Safety Committee.
  • Reviews updates to policies, procedures, forms and bylaws to meet current state licensure and risk management requirements.

·Ability to assist leaders to strategize better systems and processes related to risk management programs in order to advance clinical quality, reduce clinical and operational risks, and drive marketplace competitiveness.

  • Personal computer knowledge including, but not limited to, Microsoft programs such as Word,Excell,Teams, PowerPoint and Outlook calendars, data management programs, graphic presentation programs, Internet communication software and software applications used to support risk management (e.g., flowing charting, etc
  • Works with facility leaders to ensure all new staff receive education and training on the Risk Management Program within 30 days of hire.
  • Training and onboarding of Risk Management Program to be provided virtually when possible but will require some on-site mentoring and oversight. 
    • Any on-site training requires pre-approval of home office clinical operations in coordination with regional manager.
  • Ultimately, the Risk Manager will support and oversee on-site quality managers in the maintenance of risk management files and ensuring timely reporting of required incidents to appropriate regulatory bodies (AHCS). Also, overseeing appropriate follow-up occurs.
  • Performs improvement audits to ensure quality, accuracy, and the integrity of data.
  • Assists in the preparation and development of policies/procedures related to quality, safety, regulations, and operations.
  • Serves as a coach, resource and consultant in areas of risk management, quality improvement, safety, and nursing practice.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, competence, reliability, honesty and enthusiasm in all interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Researches, identifies, and implements strategies to improve patient outcomes utilizing resources to educate, plan, and implement outcome-based strategies.

  • ·Oversee risk management and clinical operations across multiple healthcare facilities.
  • ·Oversee compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • ·Develop and deploy risk management program, protocols, and policies.
  • ·Collaborate with executive leadership to set and achieve organizational goals.
  • ·Monitor clinical performance metrics and collaborate with facility leadership in the science of quality improvement to drive continuous improvement.
  • ·Function as a liaison between market leadership, administrative teams, and home office SMEs.
  • ·Support, educate, and assist in RCAs and escalation events as described in the escalation policy.
  • ·Understand the markets, partners and opportunities in sufficient depth to leverage additional value and insight to business and clinical product line development, patient/community quality metrics and enhancement.
  • ·Review of patient safety event outcomes to identify trends contributing to patient quality and safety to drive best practices and innovative solutions in clinical operations in collaboration with regional leadership and clinical analysts.
  • ·Use appropriate methods and interpersonal styles to develop, motivate, and guide the team to attain a successful clinical outcome
  • ·Establish themselves as a valuable reference for clinical decision making that also influences operational efficiencies, effectiveness and business decisions.
  • ·Attend and participate in regional meetings as needed.
  • ·Stay currentregarding the healthcare environment, such as reimbursement, legislative issues and business law, and act accordingly in the best interest of the corporation
  • ·Performs other duties as assigned and as directed by the Director of Clinical Operations 

This position requires 75% travel


Required Skills:
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida, in good standing.
  • Demonstrates competence through education or experience in all of the following areas (as described in Florida Stat. 395.0197(2):
    • Applicable standards of health care risk management
    • Applicable federal, state, and local health and safety laws and rules.
    • General risk management administration
    • Patient care
    • Medical care
    • Personal and social care
    • Accident prevention
    • Departmental organization and management
    • Community interrelationships
    • Medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Florida’s risk management requirements in Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
  • Seasoned in Florida’s required annual reporting (AHCA) and report triggering events.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS’s Conditions of Coverage for ASCs, AAAHC standards and Joint Commission standards for ASCs.
  • Experience in quality improvement, clinical outcomes and medical terminology in hospital and ambulatory surgery center operations.
  • Analytical ability to perform audits, develop educational materials, and develop strategic plans.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of facility and medical staff.
  • Strong communication skills to provide quality, sophisticated levels of service.
  • Strong leadership skills, such as coaching and mentoring team members with a heavy focus and dedication in skill development.  The ability to coach and mentor teams to improve stakeholder experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all key stakeholders through written, verbal, and electronic communication.
  • Ability to draw insightful impressions from objective data and other forms of investigation to identify processes in need of improving.
  • Registered Nurse required.  Must have bachelor’s in health care related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or equivalent is highly preferred.

REQUIRED TRAVEL:

  • Approximately 75% required travel within designated Market or Area.
