Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Business Office is responsible for overseeing all departmental functions in support of the hospital’s mission, vision, and goals. This role involves identifying cost-effective systems that support departmental operations, considering current business trends, resource availability, and customer needs. The Director establishes effective working relationships with all hospital departments, patients, physicians, employees, and vendors to ensure quality service delivery. The Director is responsible for directing and coordinating hospital financial administration activities, maintaining fiscal records, and ensuring compliance with hospital standards, policies, and applicable regulations. The Director also oversees patient registration and clerical functions as authorized.

  • Oversee direct operations of the Business Office, including patient financial services, insurance verification, scheduling, and denials management.
  • Participate in the facility’s long-term and short-term financial planning processes.
  • Direct the development of accounting, admission, credit/collection, and internal audit controls.
  • Formulate and implement business philosophies and objectives aligned with the hospital's stated goals.
  • Develop, review, and revise policies and procedures in collaboration with Senior Management and Business Office staff to ensure alignment with current business practices.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, accrediting bodies, and internal documentation standards.
  • Provide leadership and support in developing and maintaining relationships with hospital and medical staff.
  • Conduct recruitment, retention, and evaluation of Business Office personnel.
  • Maintain awareness of professional issues at local, state, and national levels impacting healthcare delivery and management.
  • Recommend cost-saving activities and supply/equipment purchases to Senior Management.
  • Delegate administrative responsibilities to Business Office employees in the Director's absence.
  • Guide, counsel, and support Business Office staff as needed.
  • Supervise orientation programs and staff development initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate collection of required records and reports.
  • Assist the CFO with service line analysis and other finance-related projects.
  • Address questions and inquiries from accountants and management companies.
  • Prepare detailed reviews of accounts receivable activities and cash flow.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the accounts receivable system and ensure coding is compliant with contracts and state insurance codes.

Required Skills:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification

  • Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) or other relevant certifications are preferred.

Specific Job Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare business office setting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience with revenue cycle management, accounts receivable, financial administration, and regulatory compliance in a healthcare environment is required
