Job Summary
The Market Director of Procurement is a senior field-based leader accountable for driving procurement execution at scale across a defined market of 50 to 100 ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and surgical hospitals, often spanning multiple states. This role translates enterprise procurement / supply chain strategy into disciplined, measurable execution that delivers financial performance, operational efficiency, and scalable growth.
Partnering closely with Market Chief Financial Officers (MCFOs), Market Chief Strategy Officers (MCSOs), Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs), and Tenet / USPI Corporate Procurement leadership, the Market Director of Procurement owns procurement-related outcomes across market expansion, facility optimization, and ongoing operations. The role is highly visible, with frequent engagement across market leadership and corporate executives.
This role requires a strong problem-solving and analytical mindset, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights that drive accountability, support field operations, and enable consistent execution across a diverse, geographically dispersed portfolio. The position also provides indirect leadership to a broad Materials Management organization that can exceed 100 FTEs within a given market.
This position will be for Mid-America territory, ideal candidates would be located near a major airport in either Austin, Houston, Dallas, Denver, but all candidates will be considered.
Responsibilities
Drive Execution & Financial Performance at Scale
- Own end-to-end procurement execution across a multi-site market, ensuring delivery against defined financial, operational, and timeline targets.
- Translate enterprise initiatives into repeatable, field-executable processes that scale efficiently across 50 to 100 facilities.
- Lead market-level procurement / supply chain performance improvement initiatives, including utilization optimization, purchased services, and capital allocation efficiency.
- Partner with MCFOs and MCSOs to align procurement strategies with EBITDA targets and service line growth priorities.
Enforce Standardization, Governance, and Contract Compliance
- Ensure facility-level adherence to Tenet / USPI procurement standards, including GPO compliance, contract / preferred vendor alignment, and capital approval guardrails.
- Drive adoption of standardized supply and capital templates by service line to enable consistency, speed, and pricing integrity across facilities.
- Serve as the market escalation point for new technologies, vendor performance, pricing discrepancies, and contract execution issues.
Operationalize Data-Driven Performance Management
- Utilize established enterprise scorecard metrics (e.g., GPO compliance, inventory on hand, EDI utilization, accrual performance, usage module adoption) to drive actions, enforce accountability, and prioritize interventions.
- Lead regular market and facility-level materials management performance reviews with facility and market leadership, translating data into clear actions and measurable outcomes.
- Foster a culture of continuous performance and process improvement, ensuring sustained gains and operational discipline across the market.
Enable Market Growth, Development, and Integration
- Lead procurement execution post-go-live for de novos, new acquisitions, and facility expansions, ensuring on-time, on-budget activation and operational readiness.
- Partner with Development, Clinical Operations, Facilities, and Market Leadership stakeholders to streamline procurement training workflows and remove execution barriers.
- Ensure seamless onboarding and integration of new facilities into USPI procurement systems, contracts, and operating standards.
Lead, Develop, and Scale Field Procurement Capabilities
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to facility Materials Managers and broader Materials Management teams across the market.
- Exercise indirect leadership over a distributed workforce of up to 100+ Materials Management function FTEs, ensuring alignment to enterprise priorities, execution standards, and performance expectations.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and development of Materials Management talent to build a scalable, high-performing field organization, including deployment of regional management models.
- Establish clear operating rhythms, communication cadences, and market-level procurement governance structures to drive consistency and accountability.
Stakeholder Engagement & Executive Visibility
- Serve as a key liaison between Tenet / USPI Corporate Procurement, market leadership, and facility operators.
- Maintain strong partnerships with Market Presidents, MCFOs, MCSOs, and RVPs to drive alignment and execution.
- Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities with clarity to senior leadership, enabling timely decision-making.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Ability to travel up to 50% - Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) will be conducted on finalist.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Supply Chain, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive operations leadership experience, preferably in healthcare or multi-site environments
- Experience leading through influence across large, indirect teams and complex reporting structures
- Experience partnering with senior operational and financial leaders (e.g., CFOs, strategy, operations)
- Strong analytical and financial acumen with ability to translate data into action
- Proven ability to enforce standards, drive accountability, and lead change across complex organizations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and MMIS platforms
Compensation:
- Pay: $120,016 to $191,568 annually. Compensation depends on location, qualifications, and experience.
- Position may be eligible for an Annual Incentive Plan bonus of 10%-25% depending on role level.
- Management level positions may be eligible for sign-on and relocation bonuses.
