Laboratory Supervisor
Dallas, Texas Baylor Medical Center at Uptown (10820)Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Uptown provides a wide range of medical and surgical services for to the greater North Texas area across 8 ORs, 24 private Inpatient rooms, a full-service ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, Spine, General, Bariatrics, Surgical Oncology, ENT, Reconstructive Surgery, and other surgical specialties.
Under the direction of the Regional Director of Laboratory Services, the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with CLIA, The Joint Commission (TJC), and CAP standards. This role includes providing expert knowledge regarding laboratory testing, managing staff, developing policies and procedures, and serving as a resource and mentor to others in the department. The Laboratory Supervisor assists in employee evaluations, staff scheduling, and ongoing education. In addition to performing duties as a Medical Technologist, the Supervisor ensures efficient laboratory operations and promotes a safe and effective environment.
- Perform clinical laboratory tests and procedures while ensuring compliance with CLIA, and TJC.
- Develop, review, and update laboratory policies and procedures to comply with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Oversee quality control and calibration processes, ensuring accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Act as a resource for laboratory staff, providing guidance on complex technical issues.
- Manage laboratory supplies and ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, contributing to the development of the laboratory team.
- Ensure proper handling and processing of specimens, ensuring that testing is completed in a timely manner.
- Address physician, staff, and patient concerns, and escalate issues to the Regional Director as necessary.
- Oversee Point of Care Testing (POCT) program, ensuring proper training and compliance with policies.
- Promote a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to infection control and biohazard protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient data and laboratory results.
- Support the department's performance improvement initiatives by contributing to continuous quality improvement processes.
- Assist with monthly staffing schedules and ensure that staffing aligns with laboratory workload and operational needs.
- Utilizes email and computer systems (including EHR and scheduling software) to manage staff communication, coordinate patient care, document performance, and ensure efficient workflow.
Required Skills:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, biological/chemical/medical/laboratory science, or health science
from an accredited college or university.
Licensure/Certification:
- Certification by one of the following accrediting agencies preferred but not required: MT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP),
CT (ASCP), MT (HEW), MT (AMT), MT (NCA), CHT, CHS. - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by American Heart Association (AHA) required.
Specific Job Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accredited laboratory, preferred.
• Experience with Point of Care Testing, preferred
