Job Description:

We are currently seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Hospital Outpatient Department team.  

As the OR RN Circulator, you will have responsibility for patient safety by designing, coordinating and delivering care to meet the needs of the surgical patient.

  • Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.
  • Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.
  • Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.
  • Prepare for and adapt procedures to meet individual needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Ensure all documentation and consents are complete prior to surgery.
  • Advocate for each patient’s safety.
  • Follow standard policies and procedures for surgical/procedural interventions, adapting for surgeon and anesthesia provider preference.
  • Ready and prepared for daily on time case starts; on time shift arrival and work attendance.
  • Demonstrate compassion and caring for patients, their family members and surgical team members.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects; and knowledge of regional anesthetic techniques and moderate sedation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of location, care and operation of surgical equipment/instruments.
  • Demonstrate competence in preparing and cleaning OR suites before and between cases and after terminal cases, based on patient infection classification.
  • Position, prepare skin and prevent electrosurgical events during patient care in the operating room.
  • Provide postsurgical patient hand-off report to RN in next unit of care.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies in the operating room suite.
  • Available to take emergency Call during weekdays and on weekends as assigned.

Required skills:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Minimum requirement is an Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year previous Operating Room experience required.
  • Licensure: Current unrestricted Texas RN license
  • Life Support Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association
  • CNOR preferred
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with staff, physicians, patients and families.
  • Clinically proficient in OR nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the developmental needs of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Able to lift, push, pull and stand without difficulty
