The Core Technician plays a vital role in ensuring smooth, efficient operations within the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC). This position supports both clinical and materials management functions by maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked surgical environment. The Core Tech is responsible for turnover and terminal cleaning between cases, assisting with supply management, and ensuring accurate documentation and inventory control through ENVI software.
Key Responsibilities
Operating Room Support & Turnovers
·Perform terminal cleaning and room turnovers between surgical cases, ensuring all surfaces, equipment, and high-touch areas are disinfected per infection control standards.
·Restock supplies and instruments in each OR according to standardized case setup and par levels.
·Assist nursing and surgical staff with equipment movement, room setup, and breakdown.
Materials Management Support
·Assist the Materials Manager with daily operations including receiving, unboxing, labeling, and stocking supplies.
·Ensure all received materials are correctly entered into ENVI (or equivalent supply chain software) for tracking and inventory accuracy.
·Monitor supply usage and alert the Materials Manager of low-stock or back-ordered items.
·Rotate stock to ensure first-in, first-out (FIFO) management and prevent expired supplies.
Sterilization and Equipment Handling
·Transport sterile and non-sterile equipment safely between areas while maintaining separation protocols.
·Support Sterile Processing in the transport of case carts and clean/dirty instrument segregation.
·Verify that instruments and equipment are available, clean, and functional before procedures.
Safety, Compliance, and Team Collaboration
·Follow all infection control, OSHA, and AORN standards.
·Participate in safety rounds, staff huddles, and quality improvement activities.
·Support all departments as needed to ensure efficient ASC operations.
·Maintain confidentiality and uphold the ASC’s mission and values at all times.
Qualifications
·Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
·Experience:
oPrior experience in a surgical or ambulatory care environment preferred.
oExperience in sterile processing, housekeeping, or materials management a plus.
