Sterile Processing Tech Supervisor at Western Carolina Surgery Center:

·The Sterile Processing Technician cares for and maintains all surgical instrumentation and sets up supplies and instruments for surgery cases.

·The Lead Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for supervising and assisting with the cleaning and sterilizing of all items pertinent to the operations of the center. 

·Makes decisions regarding sterilization department needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members and/or leaders.

·Helps maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of the unit as a whole. 

·May have additional responsibilities as designed by the Clinical Director/Facility Administrator, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects.

Qualifications

Education:

·       High School Diploma, or equivalent

Licensure/Certification:                              

·       Must be a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician, CRCST preferred.

BLS certification

Required Experience:

  • At least 4 years' experience as a SPD/Instrument Room Technician in multiple specialties. 
  • Experience with all types of sterilizers.
  • Knows operating room instrumentation.
  • Organized in setting up operating room instrument tray.
  • Understands operation of steam/ gravity sterilizer.
  • Understands Sterrad sterilizers.
  • Ability to prepare reports and keep records.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
