Fresno Surgical Hospital is known for excellence in surgical care delivery and patient satisfaction. Our goal is to provide a high quality of care through compassion to all we serve by creating a supportive environment for patients, clinical staff and employees.

Responsible for the daily processing, testing and reporting of laboratory specimens in all areas of the clinical laboratory. Maintains the laboratory record system and quality controls practices. Follows established laboratory policy and procedure and current regulatory standards.

Shift: 8 hours


Required Skills:

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology or other education requirements in order to receive a CLS license in the State of California.
  • Maintains a minimum of 12 CE units per year from agencies that are accredited by the State of California. 
  • 5 years Lab experience preferred. 
  • Experience in phlebotomy. 
  • One year internship in approved Laboratory Scientist training program.

Required License and Certification 

  • Medical Scientists Licensed to practice as a Clinical Lab Scientist in the State of California.
  • Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Required Skills

  • Ability to maintain collaborative working relationships to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ability to draw venous, arterial blood collection and EKG performance. 
  • Excellent documentation skills, highly detailed oriented and ability to multitask and manage time effectively and productively in a stressful situations.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of all laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices, specimen integrity & stability, federal and state requirements for laboratory operations and applicable accreditation standards.
  • Superior customer service skills, effective verbal and written communication and proficient computer skills.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in validation, parallel and comparison studies of new equipment, control and testing materials.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.
  • Establishes work flow priorities based on specimen status.
  • Assumes the role of CPT to providing coverage.
  • Ensures accuracy in reported results by monitoring test performance, evaluation of accuracy, precision, appropriateness, and reasonableness of results for both patient and quality control material.
  • Ensures overall testing compliance using established policies and procedures from pre analytic to post analytic stage of patient test management and complex problem solving.

  • Performs management of equipment, including trouble shooting and complex problem solving.
  • Serves as a resource for detection, correction and documentation of problems with specimen handling and/or identification.
  • Other duties as assigned
