This position reports directly to the manager of SPD/director of surgical services, and is accountable for ensuring that all cases carts required for surgical procedures in IP & OP surgery are prepared prior to procedure start time, aseptic technique is used at all times while providing supplies and equipment for the entire operative team.
Salary Range: $23.00 - $24.00
Required Skills:
Minium Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of related experience or medical related training preferred.
Required Certification
- Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.

Essential Functions
- Assists in preparing surgical supplies and instrumentation for surgical cases following preference card and schedule requirements.
- Case carts are prepared at least two hours prior to all procedure
- All first cases for the next day will be picked on case carts.
- All next day priority items are identified and communicated to SPD for proper processing.
- Identify location of any vendor trays or special requested instruments.
- Review daily schedule & plan for instruments needed
- Communicate with SPD technicians on priority instruments needed including loaner trays.
- Track and communicate with SPD all item flashed sterilized items for immediate use.
- Gather soft good supply in a bag, sterile pack, and all instruments required for procedure onto cart.
- Cover cart, identify OR suite, surgeon, time of procedure, mark identification so that it is visible on top of the cart and place cart for next surgery outside of OR suite.
- Any missing items are identified and communicated to OR coordinator, OR suite staff, or SPD personnel as appropriate.
- Maintains case cart supplies at least two days ahead and continuously follows the surgical schedule to ensure all surgical procedures are accounted for.
- Ensures all supplies are placed in their appropriate location and all supplies are put away daily as needed.
- Ensures all sterile items are maintained on shelf and inspects sterile items for sterility indicators.
- Assists in room set up, under the direction of the registered nurse, and gathers needed equipment.
- Identifies appropriate supply are adequately stocked and communicates to the registered nurse any preference card supply concerns.
- Wipes all equipment with appropriate disinfectant prior to use and after patient care.
- Identifies and communicates operating room supply and equipment concerns to the unit coordinator at the beginning of shift, throughout the day and end of shift.
- Observes safety precautions at all times; uses protective wear, gloves, and goggles; uses proper body mechanics.
- Other duties as assigned.
