Gastroenterology East, P.A. & Endoscopy Center is seeking a Referral Coordinator to join our growing outpatient gastroenterology practice. This role supports center operations, playing a key part in delivering a seamless, patient‑centered experience in a fast‑paced endoscopy environment.

Position Summary
Gastroenterology East is seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Referral Coordinator to support our growing practice. This role is responsible for managing incoming referrals, ensuring timely scheduling, verifying insurance requirements, and coordinating care across providers. The Referral Coordinator plays a critical role in delivering a seamless patient experience while supporting efficient clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process incoming referrals from providers, hospitals, and external sources
- Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and referral requirements prior to scheduling
- Obtain prior authorizations and ensure compliance with payer guidelines
- Coordinate appointment scheduling in alignment with provider availability and urgency of care
- Communicate with referring providers regarding referral status, missing information, or updates
- Serve as a point of contact for patients regarding referral status, scheduling, and next steps
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and entered into the EMR system
- Follow up on pending referrals and outstanding authorizations to ensure timely patient access
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, physicians, and external partners
- Adhere to HIPAA and organizational policies regarding patient confidentiality and data security
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a medical office, referral coordination, or patient access role
- Knowledge of insurance verification and prior authorization processes helpful
- Familiarity with EMR systems
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Customer service-oriented with a patient-first approach
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Longevity in past roles
