Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Kirby Glen is a fast-paced Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) committed to delivering the highest quality surgical care and exceptional experiences for patients and their families.
Experience with ophthalmology is REQUIRED for this role.
Job Summary
The Certified Surgical Technologist is an integral part of the surgical team, responsible for scrubbing for surgical procedures and maintaining aseptic technique throughout the process. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing, this role involves preparing and maintaining surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, as well as ensuring patient safety and supporting quality improvement initiatives.
Specialties include: Orthopedics, ENT, General Surgery, GI, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Plastics, Podiatry, and Urology.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for procedures by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and sterile.
- Scrub and assist surgeons during procedures, maintaining a sterile field at all times.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide instruments and supplies promptly.
- Ensure correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after the procedure.
- Care for and handle surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and prepping as needed.
- Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines to minimize risks to patients and staff.
- Support and participate in quality improvement activities within the center.
- Communicate effectively with team members, physicians, and patients.

Required Skills:
- Proficiency in maintaining sterile technique and handling surgical instruments.
- Ability to anticipate surgeon and team needs during procedures.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of infection control standards and OR safety protocols.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Experience:
- Certified Surgical Technologist credential.
- At least 1 year of ophthalmology/eye procedure experience.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program or 2+ years of experience in the role.
- Prior experience in an ambulatory surgery center environment.
- Familiarity with multiple specialties, including orthopedics, ENT, and GI.
