Memorial Hermann Surgery Center – Main Street is a trusted outpatient surgical facility located in the heart of Houston, TX. We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Materials Assistant to support the surgical team by ensuring accurate and timely inventory management. This full-time role plays a key part in the day-to-day operations of our surgery center by organizing, receiving, and distributing medical supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, inspect, and stock incoming medical supplies and equipment
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and perform regular cycle counts
  • Distribute supplies to appropriate departments in a timely and efficient manner
  • Communicate with vendors regarding order discrepancies or backorders
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the supply storage areas
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to anticipate supply needs
  • Follow all facility policies and regulatory guidelines regarding inventory and safety

Required Skills:
  • Inventory management
  • Shipping & receiving logistics
  • Use of inventory software and hospital supply systems
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Physical stamina (lifting up to 50 lbs)
  • Time management and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong communication and collaboration
  • Knowledge of storage and handling protocols (especially for medical supplies)
  • Basic computer proficiency (email, spreadsheets, data entry)
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting

Required Experience:
  • Received and verified incoming shipments, ensuring accurate documentation and condition of items
  • Distributed supplies to departments based on daily requisitions and immediate needs
  • Maintained organized, clean storage areas in compliance with hospital safety standards
  • Conducted regular cycle counts and supported inventory audits
  • Reordered stock to maintain par levels and reduce backorders
  • Responded to urgent clinical supply requests and supported operating room needs
  • Collaborated with clinical teams to troubleshoot supply chain issues and resolve discrepancies
  • Participated in onboarding and training new materials staff
  • Utilized education and training (HS diploma or GED).
