Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Kirby Glen is a fast-paced Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) committed to providing high-quality surgical care and exceptional experiences for patients and their families.


Job Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing direct patient care during surgical procedures and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in the operating room. This role requires strong clinical judgment, technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of the surgical team. The OR RN demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique, anticipates the needs of the surgical team, and provides comprehensive care throughout the perioperative process.

Specialties include: Orthopedics, ENT, General Surgery, GI, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Plastics, Podiatry, and Urology.


Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective, and efficient patient care during surgical procedures.
  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functional.
  • Assist in patient positioning, prepping, and draping to maintain patient comfort and surgical access.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the surgical team.
  • Monitor patient status intraoperatively, reporting any changes promptly to the surgeon or anesthesia provider.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to aseptic and safety standards.
  • Document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely according to center policy.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity, and informed consent throughout care.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals for optimal outcomes.
  • Support and participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance activities.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; current RN license in the state of Texas.
  • Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS (PALS may be required depending on specialties).
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of OR nursing experience in an ambulatory or hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile technique.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in patient condition and surgical needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Skills:
  • Expertise in perioperative nursing care and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to anticipate surgeon and team needs during procedures.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in patient assessment and monitoring during surgical procedures.
  • Effective collaboration and problem-solving skills.

Required Experience:
  • Active RN license in Texas.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (PALS if required)
  • Minimum 2 years of operating room experience.
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting.
