OR RNs are an integral part of the surgical team, providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases. Their role requires a high level of accuracy and professionalism in a fast-paced surgical environment. OR RNs are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery. Their ability to maintain a professional approach while providing nursing care is critical in ensuring positive patient outcomes while keeping patients and their families informed. Will work directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op. Responsibilities
TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital, is seeking a motivated per-diem OR Registered Nurse to join our team. TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital is a fast paced ASC environment committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families.
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse, operating room, provides nursing care and service during surgery cases. The RN will be responsible for positioning the patient, prepping the patient, and circulating the case. Experienced in surgical procedures in the following specialties: Orthopedics, ENT, General, GI, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Pain, Plastic, Podiatry, Urology.
- Provide direct nursing care to post-surgical patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Monitor patient recovery, assess vital signs, and recognize any signs of complications.
- Administer medications, including pain management, per physician orders.
- Educate patients and their families on post-surgical care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations.
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment.
- Ensure compliance with all infection control and safety protocols.
- Assist in emergency situations, demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families throughout the recovery process.

- Proficiency in post-surgical nursing procedures, including pain management and wound care.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of infection control and patient safety standards.
- Skilled in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in emergency situations.
Required Experience:
- Current and unrestricted RN license in the state of Texas.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in post-surgical, PACU, or acute care nursing preferred.
- American Heart Association BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
- Experience in a hospital or surgical setting preferred.
- Strong understanding of pain management protocols and post-operative care best practices.
