Responsibilities
TOPS Specialty Surgical Hospital, located in the heart of Houston, is a physician-owned, award-winning facility known for delivering exceptional surgical care with a personal touch. As part of United Surgical Partners International (USPI), we specialize in outpatient and inpatient surgeries across a variety of specialties including orthopedics, spine, ENT, pain management, and more. Our mission is to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care in a welcoming environment that supports both our patients and our team.
We are currently seeking a Pre-Admissions Testing (PAT) Nurse to join our team full-time. This role is key to ensuring that patients are well-prepared for their surgical procedures—both physically and medically—before they arrive for surgery.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct pre-operative assessments via phone or in person, reviewing medical histories and identifying any potential anesthesia or surgical risks
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and primary care providers to obtain necessary clearances and lab work
- Educate patients on pre-surgery instructions, including fasting, medication management, and arrival logistics
- Ensure all required documentation is complete prior to the scheduled procedure
- Identify and escalate any health concerns that may affect surgical clearance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough charting in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Support patient safety, satisfaction, and readiness through proactive communication and education

Required Experience:
- Current RN license in the state of Texas (or compact license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- BLS certification required
- Minimum of 1 year of pre-op, PACU, or pre-admissions experience preferred
- Familiarity with EMR systems and surgical workflows
