TOPS Specialty Surgical Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a safe and efficient environment. Located in Conroe, Texas, our hospital offers a wide range of outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures. Our highly skilled medical staff, including nurses and specialists, work together to ensure that each patient receives the best care possible from pre-operative assessment to post-operative recovery.
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate PreOp Registered Nurse to join our team at TOPS Specialty Surgical Hospital. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing patients for surgery by assessing their medical history, performing physical examinations, providing education, and ensuring they are ready for the surgical procedure.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-operative assessments and evaluations, including reviewing patient medical history and lab results.
- Educate patients on the surgical process, including pre-op instructions and what to expect before, during, and after surgery.
- Prepare patients physically for surgery, including starting IV lines, ensuring proper documentation, and administering pre-operative medications as necessary.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other surgical team members to ensure the safety and preparedness of the patient.
- Monitor patient vitals and handle any issues related to patient care, addressing concerns as needed.
- Ensure all patient information is accurately documented in the medical records.
- Maintain a sterile environment, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are prepared and ready.
- Ensure patient comfort and provide emotional support during preoperative procedures.
- Adhere to safety protocols, infection control measures, and regulatory guidelines.

Required Skills:
- Ability to conduct thorough preoperative assessments and document findings accurately.
- Knowledge of preoperative protocols and ability to work with surgical teams to ensure patient safety.
- Strong communication skills for patient education and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency in starting IVs, administering medications, and preparing patients for surgery.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and infection control standards.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Required Experience:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a PreOp or surgical nursing role.
- Experience in assessing and preparing patients for surgery across various specialties (orthopedics, general surgery, etc.).
- Strong clinical skills and a background in working with surgical teams in an outpatient setting.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (or willing to obtain).
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) is preferred.
