TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Pre-Op Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. The Pre-Op RN plays a crucial role in preparing patients for surgical procedures, ensuring they are physically and emotionally ready for surgery. This position requires a keen attention to detail, strong critical-thinking skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
The Pre-Op RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, verifying medical history, administering preoperative medications, and educating patients and their families on surgical procedures and post-operative care. They collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver seamless and efficient care, supporting the overall mission, vision, and values of our organization.
Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing medical history, verifying allergies, and evaluating lab results.
Administer preoperative medications as prescribed and ensure patient stability before surgery.
Provide patient and family education regarding the surgical procedure, expectations, and post-operative care instructions.
Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to coordinate care plans.
Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control policies.
Monitor patients for any signs of distress or complications and take appropriate actions as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions and interventions.
Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and excellence in patient care.
Required Skills:
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and perioperative care.
Understanding and implementation of aseptic techniques.
Ability to care for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing patient conditions.
Strong communication, teaching, and organizational skills.
A team-oriented mindset with a commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.
Required Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
Current Texas Nursing License.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Pre-Op or PACU nursing.
Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting is preferred.
