Houston, Texas TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital (11000)TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital, a part of United Surgical Partners International (USPI), is seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our dedicated surgical services team. Our hospital provides a wide range of surgical specialties with a strong commitment to patient safety, quality, and excellent outcomes.
The Sterile Processing Technician plays a vital role in ensuring safe, high-quality patient care by maintaining the cleanliness, sterilization, and functionality of surgical instruments and equipment. This role requires attention to detail, a commitment to safety standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with nurses, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Operate and monitor sterilizers, washers, and other processing equipment according to established procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, equipment tests, and inventory.
- Ensure surgical case carts are complete, properly assembled, and ready for use.
- Inspect instruments for proper function and remove defective items from circulation.
- Adhere to infection control and safety standards at all times.
- Collaborate with the operating room team to ensure instrument needs are met for scheduled procedures.
- Assist with ordering and inventory management of sterile processing supplies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CBSPD or IAHCSMM) preferred.
- Previous experience in sterile processing or central supply strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection prevention, and instrument handling.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accuracy under time-sensitive conditions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of sterilization and decontamination procedures
- Proficient in the use of sterilizers, washers, and surgical processing equipment
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and safety
- Ability to follow established protocols and regulatory standards (OSHA, AAMI, AORN, CDC)
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Problem-solving and critical thinking in fast-paced environments
Required Experience:
- Previous sterile processing or central supply experience in a hospital or surgical setting preferred
- Experience with assembling, inspecting, and preparing surgical instruments and case carts
- Familiarity with electronic documentation and record-keeping systems
- Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (IAHCSMM or CBSPD) preferred but not required
