Patient Financial Counselor at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas:

·Supervises all functions of the insurance verification process for new and returning patients of Baylor Scott White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas.This may be a hybrid/remote position and the employee must comply with the Hospitals “Remote/Work from Home” policy, in meeting process and productivity expectations of the position.

Qualifications

Education

·High School diploma or equivalent

Required Experience

·Minimum 3-year medical insurance verification experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·Excellent Customer Service Skills

·Good communication and people skills

·Excellent telephone skills

·Good computer skills – MS Office

·Ability to maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive, privileged communications and work product.

·Ability to utilize Electronic Heath Care Record system for documentation to patients account/record

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·Maintains the insurance verification workload utilizing PAS queue information.

·Ensures that all verifications are complete and accurate, takes appropriate action when timelines are missed.

·Work with hospital and physician office employees to ensure smooth and efficient flow of incoming verifications.

·Proficient in managed care contract interpretation to include ability to process cases accordingly.

·Participates in team meetings.

·Ensures cases are authorized per insurance carrier recommendation and guidelines.

·Notification to appropriate staff and offices regarding pending authorizations.

·Works correspondence pertaining to insurance authorizations, if applicable.

·Advises patients for all financial options available to assist with out of pocket amounts to include, SurgiCares, Charity and payment plan options.

·Maintains PAS system queue for Financial Counsel, notifying management when appropriate.

·Understands managed care contracts, and pricing of patient out of pocket amounts

·Serves as backup for completion of daily deposit for hospital, communicating with CBO team members when required.

·Serves as backup for registration and collections team members when needed.

·Responds to messages left from employees, physician offices or patients in timely manner.

·Serves as backup to other business office areas as needed.

·Other duties as assigned.
