Summary of Responsibilities: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technician, Laser Service to join our dedicated clinical team. Responsible for operation of lasers and assisting procedures and surgeries at the ambulatory surgery center. Serves as liaison between surgeon, facility, pre-op staff, etc. Position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and surgical and laser procedures. The person in this role may also act in capacity of Medical Assistant (MA) as directed. In the MA role, would assist in the care of Surgery Center patients as requested under the direct supervision of the professional staff.Performs ancillary duties in the Surgery Center that include but are not limited to patient observation and discharge, and patient transportation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains accurate surgical records for surgeons as outlined in company standards and guidelines.
- Operates Femto laser within guidelines set forth by parent company and training
- Work with surgical lasers and other medical devices within specified guidelines to assist in a variety of procedures, as directed
- Performs pre-operative checklists, sterilization, laser calibrations and completes required paperwork.
- Maintain effective communication with Surgical Vision Coordinators, MEC Surgeons, and ASC and staff as appropriate
- Submit completed daily work log if/as directed.
- Adhere to schedule and properly manage time to stay within required 40 hours, unless practice needs dictate otherwise and/or overtime requested by supervisor/director.
- Cross train with co workers to prepare for time off and provide coverage for team mates.
- Maintains patient confidentiality always.
- Attends required meetings.
- Ability to speak, understand and write fluent English
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Proficiency in alphabetizing and spelling
- Ability to write legibly
- Provide optimum assurance of safe surgical environment
- Check preoperative and PACU areas, materials and equipment for appropriate patient care.
- Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety, explosive hazards and aseptic techniques
- Assists in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis.
- Transport patients for discharge
- Assists in efficient turnover by performing patient care responsibilities in timely, efficient manner.
- Respect and understand the patient right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decisions.
- Obtain vital signs for preoperative phase.
- Participate in staff education programs
- Participate in Surgery Center quality improvement activities.
- Does not engage in gossip or other non-productive behavior as outlined in Employee Handbook and per departmental policies

Minimum Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
Minimum Background Requirements
- Two years previous experience or training in this or similar position in a medical practice.
- High School diploma or GED required
- College degree desired, but not required
- Successful completion of training provided by laser parent company
Minimum Demonstrated Skills
- Proficiency on a PC
- Proficiency using a photocopier
- Proficiency handling multiple telephone lines
- Proficiency using a Scanner
Attendance Requirement
This position requires that staff member be available during normal clinic hours to accommodate the schedule of the surgeon. Normal clinic hours are generally 4 days a week during measuring period of Monday through Friday from approximately 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Some schedule
variation may be needed to meet the needs of our patients. Schedule may vary, or change based on patient needs with or without notice.
Physical Requirements:
·Must be in good mental and physical condition to withstand the medium to high levels of stress and demands of a mentally and physically active position.
·Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, adequate vision and hearing needed in daily work.
·Must be able to deal with routine to moderate levels of stress on a routine basis
·Sitting 70% of the time
·Walking 20% of the time
·Standing 10% of the time.
·Medical office environment
