Responsibilities
North Shore Surgery Center is seeking a motivated full time Surgical Tech / SPD Tech to join our team. Our fast paced ASC is committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families. We provide first-class surgical services for local communities and recognize our employees as our number one assets. We focus on offering a high quality, ambulatory care alternative to a hospital for surgical procedures. We have been in operation at this location since 1985 and perform over 6,000 surgeries per year. Specialty areas include ENT, GI Lab, General Surgery, GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, Oral Surgery and Urology.
JOB SUMMARY: Anticipates the needs of the surgical team.Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:Include the following.Other duties may be assigned:
·Efficiently and effectively assists physician with operative procedures.
·Demonstrates knowledge of specific responsibilities in all emergency situations.
·Handles instrumentation in a manner that prolongs the “life” of instrument
·Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
·Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.Is responsible for doing a sponge, needle and instrument count pre-operatively and intraoperative with the circulating nurse.
·Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
·Assist in keeping physician preference cards accurate and updated.
·Retains all specimens sent to pathology/confirming source name with physician.
·Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas.Assists in cleaning and reprocessing instrument sets.
·Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
·Uses appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
·Follows all equipment and safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
·Will need to be proficient in Ophthalmology, GI, Podiatry, Gynecology, Retina and Plastics
Required Skills:
Qualifications and Certificates
·High School graduate or equivalent.
·Completion of an appropriate surgical technician program
- previous surgical technician experience of at least on year
- Experience in Ophthalmology strongly preferred.
·Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient.
·Must be an excellent team plater and have the ability to communicate with the staff.
Other skills and abilities:Need to be able to properly load lenses in Ophthalmology cases.Will need to develop a strong knowledge of ophthalmic instrumentation and microscopes. It would also be preferred to have some Retina knowledge.
