Histology Technician
Overview
Histology Technicians are an integral part of the surgical team, providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases. Their role requires a high level of accuracy and professionalism in a fast-paced surgical environment. Histology Technicians are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery. Their ability to maintain a professional approach while providing nursing care is critical in ensuring positive patient outcomes while keeping patients and their families informed. Will work directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op. Responsibilities
Quad City Gastroenterology, is hiring a full-time Histo Tech to join our growing team.
As the Histology Technician, you will perform paraffin embedding for biopsy specimens to prepare for microscopic evaluations by the pathologist for surgical cases. You will assume responsibility for the quality of the tissue slides, following technical and quality control procedures. You will be responsible for documentation and may also assist with grossing.
Essential Duties
- Meets all responsibility requirements established by the Supervisor of Laboratory Services.
- Responsible for the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic evaluations by the pathologist, including surgical, research and outside cases.
- Assumes responsibility for quality of tissue slides, following technical and quality control procedures.
- Maintains work area equipment supplies.
- Performs special techniques including special stains.
- Monitors compliance with safety regulations.
- Performs other related duties as needed.

Required Skills:
- Grossing eligible per Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
- Registered as a Histology Technician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is strongly preferred.
Required Experience:
- High school diploma, associate's degree, or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college or university.
- One (1) or more years of experience as a Histo Tech.
