The Dietary Aide may include the following areas: patient tray line worker, patient meal delivery, patient services representative, cafeteria/dining/catering station attendant, cafeteria worker, cashier, barista, and possibly some utility work. The Dietary Aide is accountable to the Director of Nutritional Services and Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures.
- Maintains serving line in a clean, neat and organized manner; requests replenishments as needed.
- Serves hot and cold food on serving lines to visitors and employees.
- Replenishes silverware, napkins, cups straws, condiments, etc.
- Makes coffee; ensures coffee machines stay full.
- Ensures all beverage containers are full, i.e., soda, ice tea, juices.
- Wipes down tables and chairs in the cafeteria throughout the day with a hospital-approved cleaner.
- Clears any soiled dishes, trash from tables.
- Clears soiled dishes/trays; scrapes refuse into garbage containers; loads dishes/trays onto cleaning racks; rinses dishes/utensils.
- Loads and operates dishwashers: trays, dishes, cups, silverware; inspects cleaning to assure quality performance.
- Washes specified items by hand: pots, pans, knives, etc.
- Cleans refrigerators, freezers and other cafeteria equipment.
- Mops floors as scheduled and as needed.
- Puts away stock inventory; notifies supervisor when stock item needs ordered.
- Prepares food trays for general and therapeutic diets.
- Prepares special diet foods as necessary.
- Delivers food carts to patient care units. Returns carts to kitchen at designated times.
- Performs special cleaning duties as assigned by the Director of Nutritional Services and Manager.
- Obtains necessary information from the medical record to determine patient’s nutritional status.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Cross-trains for a minimum of 3 positions in the Nutritional Services Department.
- Consults with Director of Nutritional Services regarding use of left-overs.
- Observes infection prevention and control practices at all times; processes food items according to safe food handling procedures.
- Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Dietary Aide is an entry level position into this industry.
- Food handler certification as required by local health department.
- Must successfully pass criminal background check.
- Must complete and/or take all required health screenings and vaccines.
