The Director of Physician Services provides strategic and operational leadership for a multi-specialty physician group, overseeing practice performance across diverse service lines. Serving as the primary liaison between physician practices and organizational administrative departments, this role ensures alignment of clinical operations with system-wide strategic, financial, and quality objectives.

Serving as the primary liaison between physician practices and organizational administrative departments, this role ensures alignment of clinical operations with system-wide strategic, financial, and quality objectives.

The Director is responsible for financial stewardship, including productivity analysis, revenue cycle monitoring, and expense management. This includes evaluating provider productivity, benchmarking performance metrics, identifying operational inefficiencies, and implementing data-driven strategies to enhance revenue optimization and cost containment while maintaining high standards of patient care.

In partnership with physician leaders and practice managers, the Director drives continuous improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and patient experience excellence. The role requires advanced project management capabilities, including the ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives, manage competing priorities, and execute complex operational projects from planning through implementation and evaluation.

Success in this position demands executive presence, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical acumen, and the ability to coach and develop high-performing teams. The Director must demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative leadership style that fosters accountability, engagement, operational excellence, and sustainable growth across the multi-specialty enterprise.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes healthcare systems, data analytics, and Microsoft Office tools to support financial oversight, performance monitoring, and informed decision-making.
  • Exercises sound judgment while ensuring regulatory compliance, confidentiality, and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Fosters a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing work environment aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Maintains reliability, professionalism, and adaptability while assuming additional responsibilities to support organizational priorities.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, standard office equipment, and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products required.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized and have the ability to simultaneously manage several projects and to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Must demonstrate a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and professional appearance. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Functional Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic oversight of multi-specialty practice operations, including recruitment and development of Practice Managers and alignment of administrative functions across finance, HR, IT, credentialing, and contracting.
  • Partner directly with physicians to address operational and financial performance, overseeing monthly financial reporting, overhead management, deficit monitoring, and productivity analytics.
  • Lead workforce planning and talent management initiatives in collaboration with Human Resources to sustain high-performing practice teams.
  • Analyze and trend key financial and operational metrics—charges, collections, net income, and expense ratios—translating data into actionable insights for physicians and leadership.
  • Coordinate physician communications to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee the successful onboarding and integration of new physicians to support operational continuity and growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s  Degree Required
  • Master’s Degree Preferred, MHA/MBA
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in physician practice management with preference for experience in multi-specialty and multi-site management.
  • Strong preference for advanced knowledge of revenue cycle and both cash and accrual based accounting. Experience in both private practice and employed provider models also preferred.
  • Strong preference for advanced competency in data analysis including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Must have a valid license to drive.
