The Outpatient Occupational Therapist functions as an interdisciplinary team member. The role of an occupational therapist is to work with a client to help them achieve a fulfilled and satisfied state in life through the use of purposeful activity or interventions designed to achieve functional outcomes which promote health, prevent injury or disability and which develop, improve, sustain or restore the highest possible level of independence. Duties include preparing the patient and the treatment area, always works as a team member within the entire facility, performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Occupational Therapist promotes optimum independence in daily living.
  • Provides goal directed, activity oriented treatment to promote optimum independence in functional mobility and daily life task.
  • Ensures continuation of performance through effective education of the patient, family or support system.
  • Provides adaptive methods and equipment as appropriate to enhance performance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, families
  • Protect confidentiality in all areas as applicable
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations in physical therapy practice
  • Ability to keep accurate records and write meaningful reports
  • Ability to execute therapeutic procedures and manipulate special equipment accurately and safely
  • Position has Full Access to Protected Health Information of patients on caseload.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks and projects
  • Accurately complete job responsibilities within the specified time constraints to meet the needs of patients, regulatory standards and customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of Pool Competency in adjusting/ reading and corrective measures for adjusting pool chemicals. (Site specific, where pool available).
  • Occupational therapists (OTs) help people of all ages to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments.
  • Occupational therapists help clients not only to improve their basic motor functions but also to compensate for permanent loss of function. 
  • Physical exercises may be used to increase strength and dexterity, while other activities may be chosen to improve visual acuity and the ability to discern patterns.
  • Evaluate need for, facilitate the need for splints, orthotics, and surgical casting, and make adjustments as needed.

  • Reports to: Clinic Manager
  • Supervises:COTA, Therapy Tech

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate Degree as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Current Licensed or licensure eligible as a registered Occupational Therapist in the State of Oklahoma.
  • AHA BLS-HCP required within 30 days of hire

  • Strength (Lift, Carry, Push, Pull): Medium (exerting 11 to 51pounds of force frequently (patient treatments),10 lbs to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects or lifting/carrying 2 to 10 pounds constantly
  • Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists 1/3 or more of the time
  • Twisting:Frequently; activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time
  • Bending/Stooping:Constantly; activity exists 2/3 or more of the time
  • Sitting/Climbing:Constantly; activity exists up to 2/3 of the time
  • Keyboard/Dexterity: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
  • Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes

Environmental Conditions:

Level: Moderate to High

High exposure to hazardous risks including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, hot, cold, or wet surroundings, outdoor activities, radiation sources, fumes, electrical equipment and chemicals.Hazards will be minimized if universal safety procedures are followed.Must follow standard precautions.May be required to work weekends or flex schedules.Travel may be required.Exposed to weather conditions during travel.
