Overall Responsibility:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the clinically competent provision of professional nursing care to patients; including assessment, direct physical care, evaluation, teaching, and counseling.Ensures delegated care is consistent with patient/family needs.Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team while maintaining all standards of professional nursing.
Key tasks and responsibilities
1.Demonstrates the ability to assess and evaluate data including:
a.Systematic and ongoing assessment based on patient/family diagnoses/problem list;
b.Diagnostic tests results and other clinical information;
c.Response to medical and/or nursing care/treatment;
d.Behavioral responses;
e.Developmental needs;
f.Cultural responses/needs;
g.Educational needs.
2.Recognizes and reports changes inpatient condition.
3.Communicate with the physician regarding patient’s needs, the nursing assessments, and recommendations on a daily basis.
4.Collaborate with other nurses and health team members to ensure the patient’s wellbeing as evidenced by staff/client feedback.
5.Give a thorough, concise report at change of shift. Communicate pertinent information to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
6.Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patient and staff according to policy and procedure as evidenced by staff/client feedback and operations coordinator observation.
7.Ensure that supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
8.Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.
9.Remain conscientious in regard to personal hygiene and comply with specific division/unit regulations.
10.Demonstrates patient/family focus in the provision of care, adhering to standards.
11.Ensures delegated nursing care for patients/families is provided according to plans developed by treatment team and within the confines of the applicable practice acts.
12.Utilizes critical thinking to evaluate the effectiveness of care.
13.Assists patients and families to integrate the impact of illness and recovery into their lifestyles through patient education.
14.Collaborates with care providers in meeting patient care needs.
15.Performs care interventions in accordance with the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act.
16.Communicates progress towards expected outcomes.
17.Responds to potential risk/hazard to themselves and others.
18.Supports effective communication through utilizing systems that enable opportunities for input regarding patient care issues.
19.Documents assessments, treatments, re-evaluations, and patient responses to treatment per hospital policies and procedures.
20.Participates regularly in educational activities related to practice.Collaborates with mentor to identify learning needs and seeks experiences to develop clinical skills.
21.Develops a clinical knowledge base for populations served that is age appropriate, culturally specific and diagnosis appropriate.
22.Contributes to the establishments of an ethical environment that supports the rights of all participants.
23.Participates in resolving ethical problems or dilemmas of individuals or systems.
24.Provides advocacy, protection and support for patient rights, family involvement and patient/family decision-making.
25.Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.
26.Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
27.Actively participates on appropriate committees and QA/PI activities.
28.Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.
29.Uses good body mechanics.

Required Skills:
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Licensure and Certification:
- BCLS, if not current,certification within 90 days of hire.
- ACLS required, if not current, obtain training within 6 months.
- Valid and current License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
Required Experience:
Education and experience required:
- Board Eligible Graduate nurse or Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year college or university, or diploma in nursing.
- Prefer at least one year medical-surgical nursing experience.
Environmental and physical requirements
