Overall Responsibility:
To establish guidelines to identify the professional qualifications and skill required for employment in the pre-operative area. It is the Pre-Op Nurse’s responsibility to formulate and execute the nursing care for patients of all ages in the Pre-Op area to ensure the patients receive the highest quality of care, that their safety is ensured according to policy and procedure, and to instigate and execute all other tasks as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Prepares pre-operative for patient admission according to Hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of drug usage, their actions and side effects, interaction with anesthesia agents and expected patient outcomes.
- Recognizes emergency situation, responds quickly and efficiently following policy and procedure, ACLS, PALS, physician orders or emergency plan to prevent adverse patient outcomes.
- Maintains knowledge and adheres to policies/procedure, care standards for Pre-operative care.
- Ensures patient meets admit requirements before patient goes for surgery:
- Documents that assessments, interventions and patient outcomes are performed according to policy and procedure and Hospital standards.
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.
- Performs appropriate nursing duties during procedures that pertain to pain management using current nursing standards as well as Hospital standards.
- Completes all documentation in Cerner to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
- Adheres to established Hospital safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment

Required Skills:
Skills and Certifications:
- RN licensure from the Board of Nurse License for the State of Oklahoma
- BLS, if not current, certification provided
- ACLS / PALS required, if not current, training provided
- Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet needs of patients and unit.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
