Overall Responsibility:
Plans, coordinates and oversees patient care in the endoscopy department. Provides nursing care within prevailing national and state standards of practice and the policies of the hospital. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care and communicates appropriate information to other team members. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the clinical nurse manager, which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other perioperative departments, serving on committees, participating in QA/Performance Improvement audits and projects. Maintains aseptic environment during procedures.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Knows and adheres to policies of the hospital and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
- Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for endoscopic nursing care according to accepted standards.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients of all ages based on individual, specific patient needs and according to physician’s orders.
- Secures missing data and other patient care needs. Documents care appropriately and fully.
- Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in IV therapy, medication administration and effects, proper care of specimens, patient assessment, airway maintenance, arrhythmia detection and treatment, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families and other needed clinical competencies.
- Enacts patient and family hospital care, including a wellness-hospital approach to care.
- Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.
- Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
- Actively participates on appropriate committees and QA/PI activities.
- Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.

Required Skills:
Licensure and Certification:
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Currently licensed in the state of Oklahoma.
- BLS certification required within 30 days of hire date.
- ACLS/PALS, if not current, required within 6 months of hire.
- ACLS training required, ACLS training required prior to monitoring sedation.
Required Experience:
Experience Required:
- Must have minimum 1 year experience in sedation
- One year experience in ICU, endoscopic, OR or PACU setting required.
- Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities
