The Facilities Operations Lead supports the System Director of Facility Services in coordinating the daily activities of plant operations and maintenance of the hospitals. This role serves as the technical and operational resource for facility staff and vendors, helping prioritize work, ensure regulatory readiness, and maintain the hospital’s physical environment in a safe and operational condition.
The Lead provides day-to-day guidance to maintenance staff, monitors work quality and completion, and assists with planning, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance, and Environment of Care activities. This position functions as the on-site point of contact in the absence of the Director.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates daily maintenance and repair activities for building systems, utilities, and grounds.
- Provides work direction and technical guidance to facilities staff; assists with task prioritization and workflow coordination.
- Assists in scheduling maintenance, repairs, alterations, and minor construction.
- Performs and/or supports maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, emergency power, and fire/life safety systems.
- Identifies equipment or infrastructure concerns and communicates recommended corrective actions to leadership.
- Participates in 24/7 on-call rotation and responds to facility emergencies.
- Daily coordination of plant operations activities
- Regulatory readiness and documentation accuracy
- Timely completion of preventive maintenance and work orders
- Communication of facility risks and operational needs
- Supporting a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
- Promotes safe work practices and ensures adherence to hospital safety procedures.
- Maintains continuous survey readiness with DNV, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, and Environment of Care standards.
- Assists with regulatory surveys, documentation, and corrective action follow-up.
- Coordinates fire and life safety inspections and testing in collaboration with Safety/Security.
- Supports ICRA and ILSM implementation for construction and renovation activities.
- Assists with energy management program compliance.
- Oversees preventive maintenance completion and CMMS work order flow.
- Reviews completed work for accuracy and quality.
- Tracks deficiencies and escalates unresolved issues.
- Coordinates vendors and specialty contractors as directed by leadership.
- Serves as the daily liaison between departments and Facility Services.
- Reports facility conditions, risks, and work progress to the System Director Facility Services.
- Helps coordinate priorities between clinical operations and maintenance activities.
- Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.
- Monitors stock levels of maintenance materials and supplies.
- Assists with cost tracking and provides input for budget planning.
- Maintains repair and replacement documentation.
- Provides training support and reinforces department standards.
- Mentors technicians and helps ensure competency.
- Assigns daily work and verifies completion.
- Escalates performance or conduct concerns to the Director.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical trade school or certifications preferred.
- 5+ years healthcare maintenance or plant operations experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hospital building systems and regulatory standards.
- HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or stationary engineer license (preferred).
- Healthcare Facilities Management (CHFM) preferred but not required.
- DNV / CMS Conditions of Participation.
- NFPA Life Safety Code.
- Environment of Care standards.
- Medical gas and emergency power systems.
- Preventive maintenance programs (CMMS).
- Must successfully pass criminal background check.
- Must complete and/or take all required health screenings and vaccines.
