Registered Nurse Pre-Admission Testing PRN
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Community Hospital North (13531)The Registered Nurse is responsible for facilitating the flow of patients through the pre-admission testing process. The primary function of this job is to gather information, perform various pre-operative tests and ensure that patients are escorted through the diagnostic testing process in an efficient, complete and timely manner that models the customer service policy of the hospital. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to adjust to changing workflow assignments in a fast paced work unit and work as a team member, performing other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Consistently demonstrates premier customer service and communication skills with all internal and external customers/contacts to ensure the patient and their family members have the best hospital encounter possible
- Provides pre-op testing of surgical patients in the Pre-Admission Testing Clinic according to policy/procedure and care standards.
- Maintains knowledge of medications, equipment, expected patient outcomes and anticipated complications.
- Coordinates patient care with the multidisciplinary team, prioritizing the needs of the patient and the department.
- Demonstrates the ability to interpret and implement physician orders.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform various skills used in Pre-Admission testing, i.e. phlebotomy, acquisition of EKGs, vital signs and other as indicated on physician orders.
- Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.
Accountability:
- Reports to: Pre-Admission Testing Director
- Supervises: Licensed Practical Nurses and Patient Care Techs
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse with the State of Oklahoma required.
- 1 year clinical experience preferred; Previous surgery or critical care experience preferred
- Venipuncture and EKG experience required.
- Must have strong communication skills.
- Must be dealt oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have good computer and office equipment skills.
- BLS healthcare provider required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.
Required Physical Demands:
- Strength (Lift, Carry, Push, Pull): Heavy (exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 lbs to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects)
- Standing/Walking: Constantly; activity exists 2/3 or more of the time
- Keyboard/Dexterity: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
- Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes
- Seeing: Yes
- Hearing: Yes
- Color Acuity: Yes
Environmental Conditions:
Level: High
- High exposure to hazardous risks including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals. Must follow standard precautions.
