Responsibilities
$5,000 Sign on Bonus for Full Time Position!!
Under the general supervision, the Surgical Tech II performs the scrub role and maintains a safe sterile environment which includes preparing, passing, holding, inserting, removing, cleaning and assembly of instruments, equipment and supplies; counting sponges, needles, sharps and instruments; and assists the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps and specimen preparation in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Is responsible for performing the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards.
- Ability to take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, which also promotes efficiency.
- Ability to communicate using written, verbal, non-verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians and ancillary departments.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Application of sterile and aseptic techniques
- Knowledge of anatomy & surgical procedures
- Acts to protect and advance patient’s best interest.
- Maintains knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcome, and anticipated complications.
- Employees possessing one to two years’ experience can make application to become a first assist. If not certified as a first assist, they will be required to attend a class for basic first assist skills, and provide and return demonstration in a competency-based class.
- Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.
Accountability:
- Reports to: RN, RN OR Manager, Assistant Director of Nursing Perioperative Services, and Director of Nursing Perioperative Services.
- Supervises: None
Surgical Tech Qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology
- Certification as a Surgical Tech preferred.
- Effectively communicates, both orally and written.
- AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.
Required Physical Demands:
- Strength (Lift, Carry, Push, Pull): Heavy (exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 lbs to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects)
- Standing/Walking: Constantly; activity exists 2/3 or more of the time
- Keyboard/Dexterity: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
- Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes
- Seeing: Yes
- Hearing: Yes
- Color Acuity: No
Environmental Conditions:
Level: High
High exposure to hazardous risks including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals. Hazards will be minimized if universal safety procedures are followed. Must follow standard precautions. May be required to work flex schedules.
