    USPI Arizona Specialty Hospital is hiring a Manager of the Sterile Processing Department

    Job Summary: 

    ·Responsible for maintaining an effective and efficient Sterile Processing Department, including preparing team schedules and redirecting staff as necessary to ensure adequate staffing levels.

    ·Responsible for the Human Resource functions, including hiring, new employee orientation, competency assessments and performance management.

    ·Ensure all team members are continuously up to date regarding educational and employment specific requirements.

    ·Develops staff through assessing performance and promoting education and training. Promotes employee empowerment and engagement.

    ·Fills in as a staff member when necessary to maintain departmental operations.

    ·Directs the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, and inventory of a wide variety of complex surgical instruments and instrument sets.

    ·Oversees the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization equipment. · Establish, approve, and update contents and procedures for preparation of all instrument trays.

    ·Maintains knowledge of Sterile Processing standards, techniques, instrumentation and equipment through participation in professional organizations and attendance at relevant continuing education programs.

    ·Ensures the data base of the instrument tracking system is maintained and accurate.

    ·Assists in the implementation of new technologies that are used in the area, as well as new instrumentation used for many types of surgical procedures.

    ·Collaborates with the OR Manager, OR Coordinator, and Lead Spine Tech to prioritize workflow for the Sterile Processing Department and instrument turnover.

    ·Establishes effective working relationships with all constituents including patients, physicians, vendors, and employees.

    ·Establishes and updates standards of supplies, chemicals and materials used.

    ·Participates as an active member of the Infection Control Committee, Quality Council, and the OR Business Practice Committee. In addition, attends the daily Surgery Scheduling Meeting.

     ·Directs and coordinates all department activities to assure continuous monitoring of hospital-wide Performance Improvement.

Required Skills:

Qualifications

·High school graduate or equivalent

·Requires background in OR operations as a Scrub or Lead technician.

·Requires proficiency level acquired typically with six years of SPD experience.

·Experience with all types and models of sterilizers.

·Certification required · Comprehensive knowledge of Operating Room instrumentation.

·Must possess effective organizational, communication, team building and human relation skills.

·Requires computer skills and the ability to research and compile statistical reports.

·Must have the ability to compute mathematical calculations.

·Ability to reset operating room instrument trays.

·Knowledge of and ability to operate steam/gravity sterilizer, pre-vacuum steam sterilizer, STERRAD gas plasma sterilizer, cart washer, and Ultrasonic cleaners.

·Ability to function effectively with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

·Requires effective reading, verbal and written communication skills.

·Must be able to work independently.
