Radiology Technician is responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation to patients for diagnostic purposes. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all radiologic procedures in the facility.
  • Obtains the highest quality of work with concern for patient safety and comfort.
  • Operates imaging equipment and performs diagnostic fluoroscopy on patients as ordered by the physician utilizing proper positioning.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection.
  • Evaluates radiographs for technical quality.
  • Calculates and regulates equipment using established techniques and experience.
  • Assists physician with imaging procedures.
  • Operates mobile fluoroscopy equipment in the procedure room and OR.
  • Maintains safe, orderly work area and practices using safety factors.
  • Controls inventory and purchase of supplies in assigned area.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of field using continuing education and in-service.
  • Participates in the Performance Improvement process and activities including the areas of safety, infection control, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, documentation, compliance with OSHA standards and risk management.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment to provide a safe environment for patients, physicians and staff.
  • Ensures equipment is maintained per recommended requirements.
  • Demonstrates start up procedures, calibration of equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of using hardcopy devices, written and/or other recorded formats.
  • Regularly inspects equipment to ensure it is in proper working order.
  • Maintains log book pertaining to radiation.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety to provide a safe environment for patients, physicians and staff.     
  • Ensures radiation monitoring devices are used at all times.
  • Monitors results of monitoring devices.
  • Monitors efficacy of shielding devices.
  • Recognizes when control limits have been exceeded and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides for staff education as needed.
  • Demonstrates appropriate awareness of age specific development needs for the population served as it is related to the performance of department duties.
  • Outpatient Surgery:  Physical Demands (lifts up to 50 lbs)
  • Works on computer, uses telephone

  • Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing,
  • Sitting, light lifting, pulling and pushing of carts, equipment, etc. Must be able to bend downward at the waist, be able to kneel.
  • Required to wear lead protection during work day

  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of Perioperative process including knowledge of surgical procedures and anesthesia implications. 
  1. Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  •   Successful completion of BLS course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS certification.
