Surgical Technologist – Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Richmond
The Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team. Maintains a sterile field during surgical procedures. Prepares supplies, instruments, and equipment related to these procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the Surgery Center. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED; completion of a Surgical Technician Program and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing patient conditions as needed
- Must excel in teamwork and possess strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff, engage with patients, and coordinate with physicians

Required Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities in standardized situations
- General familiarity with medical terminology related to anatomy and surgical procedures
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and surgical workflow
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Awareness of workplace safety, including handling toxic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, radiation, and wet or humid conditions
- Compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Participation in USPI EDGE initiatives, including data collection and process adherence
Required Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED; completion of a Scrub Technician or Surgical Technology Program required
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Scrub Tech across multiple surgical specialties, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working in environments with moving mechanical parts and exposure to surgical OR conditions
- Hands-on involvement in operating room procedures, instrument handling, and patient support
