Job Summary: The RN Pre-op/PACU/PAT Float is a Registered Nurse that contact (by way of telephone and email) all patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review for appropriate lab, x-ray, EKG orders to determine where and when these procedures are to be completed and provide pre-admission teaching. The RN may send patients for laboratory testing or clearance prior to surgery as ordered/required. The RN has the responsibility to plan, direct organize, coordinate and implement all nursing care services for the pre-op and post-surgical patients in a manner consistent with our mission statement. They participate in the development of patient plan of care to include patient problems, goals, evaluations and interventions. This care includes monitoring heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and respiration, as well as managing the pain and nausea that often follow anesthesia. They may have additional responsibilities as designated by the Clinical Director.

Required Skills:

Qualifications: 

• Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state
• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Must have at least 1-3 years' previous experience in PreOP/PACU
• Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
• Must have current BLS, ALS and PALS
• Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
• Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
• Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians.
