Job description

Advanced Surgery Center of Sarasota is an outpatient surgery center that specializes in Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Podiatry, and Spine and is located in Sarasota, Florida. We are an affiliate of United Surgical Partners International, providing first-class surgical services for local communities. Advanced Surgery Center of Sarasota is seeking a full time Sterile Processing Tech.

Job Summary:

Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing all items pertinent to the operations of the center.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and implements AMI standards and any other resources (IFU’s, SDSs, policies) for the sterilization of instruments and supplies.
  • Can explain/give rationale/ for current practices.
  • Can work independently and uses time wisely.
  • Coordinates the availability of instruments/supplies for cases as needed.
  • Assures the adequate functioning and cleaning of all autoclaves and other sterilization/cleaning equipment.
  • Maintains adequate supplies without waste that are needed for sterilization
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation.
  • Facilitates turnover times to promote operating room efficiency.
  • Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
  • Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance, and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
  • Follows all equipment and safety guidelines, and is personally responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
  • Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
  • Attends in-service training, required education, conferences, and meetings to learn new skills as required
  • Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center.
  • Complies with Policies and Procedures, and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Completion of a Sterile Process Certification Program is preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience as an Instrument Technician in multiple specialties or equivalent combination of education and experience.
