Position Summary:

Urology ASC of Phoenix is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Sterile Processing Technician to join our surgical team. The technician will be responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment in compliance with infection control and industry standards. This role is vital to ensuring patient safety and the efficient flow of surgical procedures in our outpatient ambulatory surgery center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, decontaminate, assemble, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and procedure trays according to established protocols and AAMI/ANSI standards.

  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment including autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and automated washers.

  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage; report any defective instruments or equipment.

  • Ensure timely availability of sterile supplies and instrumentation for surgical cases.

  • Maintain accurate sterilization records and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, CDC, Joint Commission).

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of sterile supplies and reorder as necessary.

  • Collaborate with OR staff to anticipate instrument needs and turnover between procedures.

  • Follow proper procedures for handling contaminated items and biohazard waste disposal.

  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities.


Required Skills:

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution (e.g., CBSPD or CRCST) preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

  • Prior experience in sterile processing, preferably in a urology or outpatient surgery setting.

  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, especially urologic instruments and scopes, is highly desirable.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Basic computer skills for inventory and documentation.
