Cardio RN PRNs are an integral part of the surgical team, providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases. Their role requires a high level of accuracy and professionalism in a fast-paced surgical environment. Cardio RN PRNs are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery. Their ability to maintain a professional approach while providing nursing care is critical in ensuring positive patient outcomes while keeping patients and their families informed. Will work directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op. Responsibilities
Job Summary
·To utilize specialized nursing knowledge while giving direct and indirect patient care. o Performs assessment of patient for specific nursing care needed.
·Plans care to ensure patient safety.
·Directs and assists in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures.
·Documents assessment and nursing care performed accurately and timely.
·Supervises and directs the activities of non-professional personnel as necessary.
·To perform the tasks delegated to the "circulating" role.
·Checks room for needed supplies and prepares room for specific patient and procedure.
·Assists in transporting patient to Cath Lab and checks patient record for appropriate pre-op preparation and procedures (i.e. lab, x-ray, appropriate permits).
·Performs and/or directs appropriate surgical prep.
·Completes documentation for procedure related records, laboratory requisitions, and patient chart including medications and physician orders.
·Directs proper care of instruments, supplies, sterilization, and storage of equipment.
·Supervises and assist with the proper, safe positioning of the patient.
·Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts and documentation of same, as appropriate.
·Identifies, labels, and cares for all surgical specimens properly. o Secures emergency equipment and supplies as needed. o Controls the general "tone" of the Cath Lab/procedure room.
·Scrubs, gowns, and gloves members of surgical team following aseptic techniques.
·Sets up Cath Lab/procedure room with all necessary equipment and supplies. o Arranges instruments according to routine for a given procedure.
·Handles instruments correctly and checks for cleanliness and proper working condition.
·Maintains sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
·Performs clean up following procedures, as well as general housekeeping duties. o Functions in the role of second assistant following successful skills demonstration.
·To function efficiently as a member of the Cath Lab team.
·Provides assistance to team members, physicians, and anesthesia personnel as needed (i.e. reliability, working relations, initiative, training needs). o Reviews physicians' preference cards and updates as needed.
·Assists in stocking, preparation, and waste management of supplies. o Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Position Requirements
- Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and be currently licensed to practice nursing in the state of Texas.
- Maintains current ACLS and CPR certification.
- A minimum of one- year experience in the Cath Lab is
preferred.
