PACU RN
Overview
PACU RNs are an integral part of the surgical team, providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases. Their role requires a high level of accuracy and professionalism in a fast-paced surgical environment. PACU RNs are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery. Their ability to maintain a professional approach while providing nursing care is critical in ensuring positive patient outcomes while keeping patients and their families informed. Will work directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op. Responsibilities
Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Pinecroft, located in The Woodlands, Texas, is a premier outpatient surgical facility offering high-quality care in a patient-focused environment. As a joint venture with United Surgical Partners International (USPI) and part of the Memorial Hermann Health System, we specialize in a wide range of procedures with a commitment to safety, efficiency, and excellence.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-time PACU Registered Nurse to join our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit team. The ideal candidate is passionate about patient recovery, able to respond swiftly in critical situations, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
- Deliver compassionate, efficient care to patients in the immediate post-anesthesia phase
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications following surgery
- Manage airway, pain control, and vital signs until patients meet discharge criteria
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly
- Administer medications and respond to changes in patient status using sound clinical judgment
- Provide patient education and post-op instructions to patients and their families
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and fellow RNs to ensure seamless transitions of care
- Adhere to infection control and patient safety standards at all times
Required Skills:
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Strong IV start and medication administration proficiency
- Ability to stay calm and prioritize in high-paced environments
- Clear and compassionate communication with patients and interdisciplinary teams
- Competence in monitoring post-anesthesia patients for adverse reactions
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and nursing documentation standards
- Solid understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality guidelines
Required Experience:
- Current RN license in the state of Texas, in good standing
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (PALS a plus)
- 1–2 years of experience in Pre-Op, PACU, or perioperative nursing preferred
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center or outpatient setting is a plus
